week in review: 6/24-6/27

We had more incredible fishing fish this week. We continued with the chunking, and even after the 3 days of wind down here, we picked up right where we left off last week. I went with my buddies Calvin and Sam on wednesday and absolutely killed em. We didnt stick to many places for very long, but we caught some nice fish just about everywhere we went including one pushing 40 lbs.

On Tuesday I had 2 trips. The morning was a little slow. It started out great, but we had a slack tide about an hour into the trip causing the fishing to be a little slow for a while. we moved around for a while, trying to avoid slack did and as a result ended up with slack just about everywhere we went. Even though the middle of the trip was a little slow, we ended up finishing strong with few nice fish on the live pogies including a 35 plus lb fish.

The afternoon trip started like the morning and we caught about 20 fish right off the bat; however, the bite just shut down after about 3.5 hours. We switched over to the light tackle, but the fish were really keyed in on the the baby squid and would not eat anything we were throwing. We had some follows on some pink Hogy soft plastics from some decent fish, but we couldnt get them to eat. We ended the trip with about 25 fish including some in the low-mid 30lb range.

Friday I fished with my buddy Eric Staplefeld, and we ended up having an awesome day. We went to the same spots I've been fishing for the last 3 weeks and had some of the biggest fish I've seen all year including half a dozen over 30 and one fish well over 40lbs.

On thursday and friday I had a guy that was up here from Miami who was a new customer. We had a great time on this nice relaxing couple of days. The fish had been kind of reluctant to eat the live bait, but we had a slack tide about an hour into the trip so I decided to go with the pogies again, and boy did it pay off... lots of awesome hits, huge boils and some big fish. It took them a while to eat them but they eventually sucked them right down. When the tide picke up, we started chunking and did really well. Just for the heck of it I started fishing whole baits, and the fish were crushing them. We hooked some nice fish doing this but like the past few days, we just couldnt turn them in the current.

Today i had trouble getting bait with the 2 foot chop in the harbor, but managed to squeek out about 25 and went to pick up Sean. We found a lot of fish on top and used the opportunity to use one of the new Sebile Magic Swimmers. Those things are amazing, and Sean ended up catching a fish on just about every cast on the light tackle most were schoolies, but there were a few keepers mixed in. We switched to fishing bait and ended up catching a bunch more nice fish including 2 in the low 30 lbs range. Here are a few shots from thursday. Still waiting on shots from today.

I had a couple of regulars, Jeff and Brian, on Wednesday, and the fishing started off right where it left off on tuesday. We started out with some live pogies and they just weren't eating them. The fish would come up and just boil on them or nip at the tails, so we set up for some chunkin and it was lights out. We didnt have anything big like the day before, but we did catch 25+ fish consistently in the 15-25 pound range, and one that was just shy of the 30 pound mark. I forgot my camera, but will try to post some pics when I get them from Brian and Jeff.

I ended up doing a split trip in the afternoon with 2 other boats. We ended up having the other tide in the afternoon and it was screamin where we were fishing when we first set up to chunk. We picked away at a few fish for a little while until the tide started to break down. Once that happened the fishing picked up and we started to catch some nice fish. Most were 20-25 lbs but we did hook a few that we couldnt stop and ended up breaking off and landed the fattest fish I've seen all year that was pushing the 40lb mark. All in all it was a good afternoon with a bunch of nice guys and some big fish.

Im a little new to this but here goes... tuesday morning was my first trip in a week and a half. I took a guy that went with me a few years ago and ended up started out with some live pogies. the fish would come up and boil on the baits but didnt seem to want to eat them so we set up and started chunking. We immediatley started doubling up and from then on it was pretty non stop action. after about 3 hours they got a little finnicky but we managed to pull a few more fish until the tide slacked. All together we caught about 25-30 fish up to 28 pounds. Here a few photos from the morning trip.
